I work with youth who are facing challenges in their lives. I make it a point not to talk specifically about work here, on almost every occasion, but every once in a while, I really want to share.
A sixteen year old girl was getting ready for a major transition in her life, and feeling anxious about it. She notices the rings I wear and has often asked if I can make one for her.
Recently, I told her that we could make one together.
I really enjoyed going through the whole process of ring-making, step by step. I liked watching her choose her favorite colors, plan her design, and wait patiently for layers of paint to dry. She wanted a flower, then a heart, then...
She was happy with it.
It made me smile, too.
