the little things
After a busy week, I'm enjoying the end of a restful weekend.
Friday was our school's Open House (parent/teacher conferences). I sat at the sign-in table next to a table of refreshments, including a pumpkin-shaped basket of Halloween candy. In the final minutes of the 7.5 hour long event, I found myself drawing a turtle on an Etch-A-Sketch while a nine year old girl sat beside me, drawing pictures for her favorite staff members with a set of multi-colored-lead pencils. She said to me, "I can tell you really care about us. If you didn't, you wouldn't have bought us candy." What a lovely little moment!
Earlier in the day, a boy and his mother walked out of a classroom, and he said, "I can tell you really like your job, because you hung up all these posters!" (There were some colorful welcome signs.) It's nice to know that people notice the little things.
The little things matter.
